Hi, I’m Chrysa.

I was born in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY and grew up in Astoria, Queens, NY—where Greek was spoken more than English and the scent of souvlaki lingered on every street corner.

But when my family moved to Rocky Point, Long Island, something shifted for me. I soon discovered that I was a kid who wanted to fit in, not stand out. I distanced myself from my culture, my language, even my own name at times, especially my last one, since nobody seemed to be able to pronounce it. I didn’t realize then what I was pushing away. I guess I also didn’t realize who I really was, and was afraid to express myself.

Now, as an adult, I find myself circling back—curious, yearning, and ready to reconnect with where I came from.

This blog is my space to explore what it means to reclaim a culture I once resisted. It’s about rediscovering Greek traditions, language, food, music, and family memories—not as a tourist, but as someone coming home to herself. It’s also about what it means to grow up between two worlds—and how that complexity can be something beautiful, and how it can help you to see things through a different lens. I was fortunate enough to be able to experience two different cultures and two different languages.

If you’ve ever rejected a part of yourself because you were lost or just needed to survive, and now want to reclaim it with love and curiosity, you’re not alone. I’m learning that identity isn’t something fixed—it’s something that is always changing. And it is something that we return to, piece by piece, heart to heart, and soul to soul.

Thanks for checking out my blog!
